Plan a romantic weekend somewhere new
It used to be that if you booked a romantic weekend away your options were limited to staying in your own country, unless you happened to be in that happy state where money was no object. Now, however, with the proliferation of cheap flights all over Europe, things have changed.
Now, no matter what kind of budget you’re on, you can surprise your loved one with a romantic getaway in another country, not just another city. And with all the different destinations available through the budget airlines, you can pick from some of the most iconic cities in the world.
You might choose Paris for instance, strolling along the Left Bank, going up the Eiffel Tower and exploring the area of Montmartre. Or, depending on your other half’s character, maybe you’ll go off to Euro Disney for the day – it’s only an hour on the train from central Paris.
Or you could get some cheap flights to Amsterdam, and enjoy visiting this great Dutch city, packed with a variety of museums and art galleries. Even if you’re not that into that kind of tourism, just walking around the beautiful canal-lined city is a very romantic place to be. There are lots of boutique hotels to choose from in the centre, or if you want a hotel with more facilities you can always stay out in the business district and take the train into the city.

You could pick somewhere totally out of the ordinary – like a weekend in Krakow or Dusseldorf. The location isn’t really that important – it’s the idea of being somewhere different with your partner, and most people would be delighted with a surprise trip abroad. All you need to do is take a sneaky peek at their diary to see which weekend suits, make sure you have details like their passport number to make any bookings and get things organised!
