Pefkos Unwrapped – Discover Pefkos Holiday
If you’ve never heard of Pefkos, then that will probably change in the near future as Pefkos holidays are becoming increasingly popular and it’s easy to see why.
But first, a few basics; Pefkos can be found on the east coast of Rhodes, a couple of miles south of Lindos, and around 35 miles from the island’s capital city, Rhodes.
Rhodes is the largest of the Dodecanese islands of the eastern Aegean Sea. Until relatively recent times, Pefkos was a small fishermen’s hamlet found on the coastal road connecting the villages of Lindos and Lardos.
It gradually came to be used as a temporary summer residence by Greeks from the mainland and those living further inland on Rhodes itself who farmed crops such as olives, tomatoes, grapes and figs but who were unable to return home each evening in the growing season due to the distances involved – so they tended to have very basic homes only in Pefkos.
Pefkos as Holiday Destination
Over recent years, though, Pefkos has evolved into a tourist destination but hasn’t lost its rustic charm and relaxed feel. The main beach here is a beautiful sandy beach with various water sports available between April and November with pedalos, speed-boats and jet-skis etc., available to rent. The beach received Blue Flag status in 2008. There are lots of restaurants, cafes and bars to choose from on the waterfront.
Pefkos offers some excellent self-catering holiday accommodation via its wide choice of villas and apartments, and its commercial center has all the amenities you’re likely to need for a relaxed holiday – and more restaurants, tavernas and bars. Pefkos backs onto a hill surrounded by Pine trees from which this resort town gets its name.
Most tourists here are from the Scandinavian countries, the UK, Germany, Poland and Austria – and it’s particularly popular with families and couples who are seeking sunshine, warm or hot temperatures, great food, clear seas (ideal for snorkelling), a nice sandy beach and very friendly locals – and what more could you really ask?
