The Palindromo Meszaros ‘The Line’ photos collection captures the plight of a disaster-stricken town in Ajka, Veszprém county, Hungary as a result of the 2010 toxic waste catastrophe.
Palindromo Meszaros ‘The Line’ photos collection show that “The Line” features no digital editing of any kind, showing you the unfortunate aftermath of the spill. Truly painting the town red, you can see the material scarring trees, buildings and roads, as a bloody reminder of the 9 people who died and thousands of peoples were evacuated. The aluminum company in Western Hungary saw one of its alumina containers burst, loosening a sea of radioactive and caustic sludge on the area.
The damages were impossible to measure, including the destruction or irreparable deterioration of a big amount of houses, the dissapearing of infrastructures and the poisoning of dozens of fields. The accident is considered as the biggest catastrophe of Hungarian history.
