Interior design trends change all the time as colours and patterns change the seasons and the fashions of the time. It’s hard to keep up with design trends and they can often have been and gone before you have had a chance to acknowledge them; so we have got the heads up on what’s going to be hot in 2014:
The retro theme of the topics will be back to play in 2014. Home can bring us comfort and warmth, but there is no reason they shouldn’t also bring us a touch of a tropical escape. Using bright, floral designs, a range of fabrics can be used to upholster chairs or cover sofas.
Tropical is all about being bold and daring, using large images in your design to bring a sense of the exotic into your home. A range of contrasting materials can be used in this look, from dark woods to neo plastics.
Vintage furniture and antique decoration have featured quite heavily in 2013, but they will be back with a vengeance in 2014 as well. The great thing about antique style is that it can easily be incorporated with more modern furnishing for a great end result.
The easiest way to adopt a vintage style is with your furnishings; choose ornate furniture such as metal beds and these nice leather sofas from HelloSofas.com, and adding rustic accessories such as lamps and mirrors to match.
Following on from tropical designs, bright colours will be in abundance in the world of interior design. Use vibrant and explosive colours to make a piece of furniture or a wall in your home eye catching and strong.
Playful colours can work in any room, so brighten up your bathroom or jazz up your kitchen counters to give your home a bold design and an eccentric edge. It can seem daunting, so change one bit at a time until you feel comfortable with the result.
It may not feel particularly modern, but brass is a great material to encompass into current furnishings. It provides a classic and timeless feel while bringing a touch of elegance and sophistication.
Brass can be incorporated into your décor in numerous ways, including a nice bronze fire guard, lamps around your sitting room or even the faucets on your taps. It’s a great all-rounder when it comes to colour and style.
Both florals and bird prints were seen throughout 2013, but they are expanding even more into 2014. Vintage patterns and bright chintzy styles will be ready to adorn your curtains and carpets and bring a certain pizazz to your home.
If you want to start small, try introducing patterns with cushions and pillows and maybe even a table cloth in your kitchen. If you are going to use a particularly strong pattern then use a neutral background so avoid any clashing.
The use of textures can really give a home a whole new look visually, as well as making it feel different to the touch. What we have in our home needs to look great but feel great too. Warm wood and smooth surfaces look and feel great and work well in the majority of rooms.

If you want to spice it up a bit, introduce rougher textures such as bare bricks and textured tiling to bathrooms and kitchen walls for a strong focal point in your home décor when 2014 comes around.
Now is the time to start planning your interior design for 2014, so decide which trends you think would look great in your home and get ready to give your home a mini makeover come the New Year.
