As you know, the Samsung Galaxy S2 and the Sony Xperia Z are two highly buzzed devices of the mobile market. Both devices have amazing specs and features while the Xperia Z has a big plus point being water resistant. Still, the comparative fight is on between the two devices hailed by well-known manufacturers. Well, let’s get into the detailed comparative discussions on these smartphones.
The biggest and mind blowing positive side of the Sony Xperia Z is that it is SIP57 certified to be dust and water resistant, something that is worth a lot. This phone is water resistant up to 1 meter and can stay alive up to 30 minutes in water. Don’t expect any such thing in Samsung Galaxy S2.
The Xperia Z is built with a little bigger 5.0 inches TFT capacitive touchscreen display with 16M colors while the Galaxy S2 also features 16M colors but in a comparatively small 4.3 inches Super AMOLED Plus capacitive touchscreen display.

The Xperia Z being boosted by Sony Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2 is also protected by a shatter proof and scratch-resistant glass while the Galaxy smartphone boasts a TouchWiz UI v4.0 and is protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass.
Storage and Connectivity
Internal storage of both devices is nearly same with 16 GB flash and 2 GB RAM memory except for the 32GB flash facility in Galaxy S2. The external storage is a bit enhanced in Xperia Z with microSD expandable up to 64 GB while Samsung offered expansion up to 32 GB only.
Connectivity features are just a bit enhanced in the Sony device with HSDPA up to 42 Mbps, HSUPA up to 5.8 Mbps, Cat3, LTE, 50 Mbps UL, 100 Mbps DL, Wi-Fi 802.11, DLNA, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi hotspot, microUSB v2.0, USB On-the-go and Bluetooth v4.0 with A2DP. Samsung has given an additional NFC feature to its device.
The Xperia Z has been enhanced with a powerful 13.1 MP rear camera with 4128×3096 pixels resolution and featuring autofocus and LED flash while the Galaxy S2 has an 8 MP camera with 3264×2448 pixels resolution.
Both devices’ camera feature geo-tagging, face detection, touch focus and image stabilization except some enhancements in the Xperia Z with HDR and sweep panorama. The Sony device accompanies a 2.2 MP front facing camera while Galaxy S2 features a 2 MP front shooter.
OS and Processor
The Sony Xperia Z runs on Google’s Android v4.1.2 Jelly Bean and is upgradable to v4.2.2 Jelly Bean while the Samsung Galaxy S2 runs on the lower Google’s Android v4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich and is upgradable to v4.1 Jelly Bean.
Xperia Z’s processor is a bit powerful that the Galaxy S2 as the former is powered by a Quad-core 1.5 GHz Krait processor while the latter is boosted by a Dual-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A9.
On grounds of the above discussions, both devices are good in their own ways. But, in some cases, Sony beats Samsung with powerful processor, Jelly Bean platform and of course the water resistant capability.
